The Itinerary

  1. 1
    ~90 min

    Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk

Sharks, harbor seals, jellyfish, and an IMAX theater. The aquarium is compact and well-paced — you won't feel rushed or like you're missing anything.

Grandparent tip: Check feeding times before you arrive — the shark feeding is a highlight and draws a crowd. Arrive at opening (10am) to beat school groups.
  2. 2
5 min walk from aquarium parking lot
    ~20 min

    SoNo waterfront walk

A 5-minute walk from the aquarium takes you through the SoNo arts district and down to the waterfront. Let the grandkids lead — there's usually something interesting to stop and look at.

  3. 3
    ~30 min

Scoops & More (or Washington St ice cream)

Several ice cream and treat options within 3 blocks of the aquarium. Washington St has the best density. Let the grandkids choose the shop.

Grandparent tip: Eat outside if the weather cooperates — there are waterfront benches a short walk from any of these spots.
  4. 4
10 min walk north on West Ave

If the weather turns or you've got energy left, Stepping Stones is a 10-minute walk from the aquarium. Two big museums in one SoNo visit is a full day for young grandkids.

Grandparent tip: This is an upgrade stop — the two-museum combo works best for grandkids under 10 and grandparents who want to sit during exhibits.
